We do the math the plan list won’t.

Every Texas plan comes with an Electricity Facts Label. Every morning we rebuild each one we can read and verify, price it on your own twelve months, and give you one straight answer: switch now, wait, or sit tight.

We read and verify about 98% of Power to Choose plans automatically (927 of 944 plans on Sep 26, 2026). A few plans can’t be read automatically because of how their provider publishes them; we review those by hand, so they may appear a little later than the rest.

The savings check is free. The plan it finds, with a year of Watch, is $39 plus tax. A free account’s numbers stay current: we re-price its homes every morning. Watch is what members get for 12 months: the plan to pick, by name, and a switch alert when a switch saves at least $60 a year after fees, the fee-free window reminder and a monthly check-up.

Setup is a year of usage and your plan’s facts label. After that, the plans we verify in your area are re-priced on your months every morning, with a free or paid account.

The math, in the open.

Plans are written to win one comparison: 1,000 kWh, one month, no fees. Here is the comparison we run instead, on one real house.

Credits that vanish in your biggest months.

A plan with a $120 credit between 1,000 and 2,000 kWh lists at 9.5¢ on Power to Choose. The founder’s house in McKinney1 used more than 2,000 kWh in 6 of its 12 months and paid full price in every one of them. Over its year, that plan averages 18.9¢: $5,191 against $3,107 on a flat 11.3¢ plan.

Below 1,000 or above 2,000 kWh there is no credit and it costs 21.5¢. This house used more than 2,000 kWh in 6 of its 12 months. A flat-rate plan costs 11.3¢ every month.

Mid-contract? The fee gets weighed first.

A cheaper plan isn’t a reason to pay $175 to leave. We count what you’d save before your contract ends, and only say switch when it clears the bar.

  • Mid-contract. Switch only when what you’d save before your end date beats the fee twice over. Otherwise, wait.

  • Your last 14 days. Texas drops the cancellation fee, so a cheaper plan only has to beat your rate, not a fee. We show what it would save; a small saving may not be worth the move.

  • Contract ended. You’re likely on a month-to-month holdover rate, with no fee to leave. We email when a switch would save at least $60 a year.

Quiet until it’s worth your time.

Contract-end reminders are free: before your contract ends, and after it if you’re left on a holdover rate. With Watch, a switch alert when a switch saves at least $60 a year after fees, one when your fee-free window opens, and a short monthly check-up you can turn off in one click. That’s the whole list.

  • With an account, re-priced every morning; with Watch, the plan to pick named as prices change
  • At most one switch email a month

  1. The founder’s own home in McKinney, TX (Oncor): 27,492 kWh metered Sep 2025 – Aug 2026, priced against the Sep 2026 Power to Choose catalog, delivery charges included. Providers and plans are anonymized. The month-by-month split is reconstructed (the audit’s monthly estimates, scaled to its yearly totals), and any cost at 10% more or less usage is a rough ±10% bound. Actual savings vary with your usage and what your current plan costs; sometimes the right answer is to wait or stay put.
  2. The bill-credit plan is an example, not a real offer: 21.5¢/kWh all-in, with a $120 credit in months between 1,000 kWh and 2,000 kWh. The flat plan is 11.3¢/kWh, the all-in rate of Fixed 12 on the McKinney house.
  3. Savings before the contract ends ($898) run from Sep 27, 2026 to Jun 16, 2027. Texas plans drop the cancellation fee in the last 14 days of the term.
  4. Estimated from the past 12 months of usage, compared with the current plan. The $1,127 a year is before the $175 cancellation fee and our price ($39 plus tax); the $723 kept before the contract ends is after the fee, before our price.
